The Carlucci American International School of Lisbon, host to IMUN, strives to foster in its students the leadership skills, variety of perspective, and self-confidence to work cooperatively with others to bring about positive change. Model United Nations provides the forum for students to develop these skills and to grow into the global leaders of tomorrow.
IMUN, established in 1994 and THIMUN affiliated, is held annually in Lisbon, Portugal, in early November.
We start on Thursday afternoon with lunch, the preliminary opening and lobbying merging at our school located in Sintra, in the suburbs of Lisbon. We then shift to Lisbon for debate all day Friday and Saturday.
About 25 local and international schools from approximately 10 countries bring about 400 students to the conference. We model a United Nations GA, Environment Commission, Human Rights Commission, Security Council and Historical Security Council. Schools may bring up to 20 delegates to the GA and Commissions and make one or two additional requests for each of the Security Councils.
We charge €125 per delegate and teacher which covers the cost of Thursday lunch, Friday reception, Thursday bus transport to the hotel, round trip bus transport Friday and Saturday between the hotel and the conference site, Centro Cultural de Belém. Most of our fees, however, go toward the rental of the five rooms at CCB, arguably the most prestigious conference center in Portugal, located in the heart of the historic Belém region of Lisbon. A €300 non-refundable registration fee, due April 1, guarantees a school’s spot. The balance payment and delegation assignments are due October 2nd.
