The positions held by student officers include chair and co-chair:
The Chair is responsible for the debate of a specific issue. The chair must ensure that parliamentary procedure is upheld throughout the debate time. The chair must oversee the general order of the assembly in terms of their conduct and level of respect towards the speaker. All applicants for the chairing position must have some previous MUN (classroom or conference) experience and skills with regards to the position. Chair applicants must apply by October 1 on Form II. Chairs must also represent a delegation.
The Co-Chair is responsible for aiding the chair in decision making, role call, and other such tasks. Co-chairs must also represent a delegation.
*Please also note that any student who wishes to become a Chair must attend the chairing workshop held at the Carlucci American International School of Lisbon, 8:30 to 13:00 on Thursday, the first morning of the conference, prior to the 13:00 opening. IMUN GA Chairs will be determined by the Secretary General and Deputy Secretary General according to results of an IMUN-designed parliamentary procedure and current affairs test, and constructive participation in the workshop.
Other Positions:
Press
The Iberian Model United Nations runs a daily student newspaper- IMUNION. The role of the press is to engage delegates in interviews, report on events of the conference, as well as to make delegates from around the world welcome in Portugal. Students who show an interest in journalism, especially political journalism, should definitely consider this position as a chance to further their interest and to give a more international view to the IMUN conference.
Delegates who are interested in applying for one of the press positions must clearly indicate so on Form II and submit a one page letter of application indicating your past experience (if any) and why you think you will be a positive contribution to the IMUNION press staff to imun@caislisbon.org by October 1st.
The final decision will be made by the Secretary General, Deputy Secretary General and the Editor in Chief.
